Streepura Cave

The Streepura caves are descended from ancient times. There are many stories about this place, one is that King Ravana kept Princess Seeta in these caves. It is believed that some of the caves extend to Seeta Eliya in the Nuwara Eliya area. However, landslides in some caves today make it difficult to access. Sthreepura is actually a cave complex. If you want to enter here you have to come through Lunuwatta town. You have to walk to reach the cave as there is no proper road.

The Sththripura Cave at Kiriwanagama about 16Km from Welimada, consists of three caves. According to legend, King Ravana of Sri Lanka is believed to have used the caves to hide the beautiful Princess Seeta who was abducted after defeating her husband Prince Rama of India.
