Mana Ella Waterfall

It can be seen that there is some historical value hidden in the beautiful Mana Ella waterfall near Lunuwatta town which belongs to the Uva Paranagama Divisional Secretariat.

This beautiful mana waterfall can be reached by turning the Welimada-Udupussellawa main road at the junction with the Uva Paranagama Divisional Secretariat in Lunuwatta town and walking for about a kilometer on the Kirawanagama road.

According to the local legends, there are many water-filled ditches here which are said to have been built on the rocky plateau at the top of the falls by a prince named Manabharana who lived in the past. You can see how they are arranged so that they are filled with water and flow down slowly. These are made for medicinal baths, and are said to have 21 drips, made for bathing the king and his queens.

Other legends say that there was a tunnel from this waterfall to the Sthreepura cave in Uvaparanagama. According to the legends, King Rawana hid the goddess Seeta or kept the queen and other queens there for protection during the battle of Rama Ravana. They came to Mana Falls through this tunnel for bathing.
